YouVersion Bible
The YouVersion Bible is available as a free website or as a free download for Android, Blackberry, Palm, iPod, iPad, and iPhone. It comes in 25 English Translations (unfortunately NRSV is not one of them) as well as many other languages. It provides reading series, search features, highlight, parallel reading (comparing two translations of the same text), bookmark, link, and share features.
LifeKids
Let's face some simple truths: Being a parent isn't easy. The Bible can be intimidating. We want our children to be interested in reading and participating in the Bible. Well worry no more! LifeKids has several age appropriate interactive Bible studies that use the technology kids love. Kids are reading the Bible so parents are happy, kids get to be on the computer so they are happy. It is win-win! This is also a great tool for sitting down together and studying the Bible as a family. Oh we forgot to mention, IT'S FREE!
Lectio Divina (ABS)
Lectio Divina is an ancient Spiritual Practice of focusing on a Biblical text by reading and re-reading it. The American Bible Society puts together daily Lectio Divina studies available through their website or email. Like many other resources, it is free!
Oremus Bible Browser
Have you ever wanted to find and/or send a Bible passage but it was lengthy and typing it out was just overwhelming? Oremus Bible Browser lets you look up Bible passages (including my favorite translation, the NRSV) and you can copy and paste them into documents or emails. It is free and easy to use!
Bible Mesh
Do you want to make the Bible come to life? Bible Mesh is an interactive way to look at the Bible. It uses videos to introduce the subject and follows it up with study guides on Characters, Background (historical events), Key Events, Theology, and Quizzes. Unfortunately not all things in life are free and Bible Mesh costs $39.99 per year but gives you unlimited access to all content. Fortunately, they do allow a free trial of Era 1 so you can try it out before purchasing it.
Glo Bible
Sometimes when we read the Bible we have a hard time imagining what we are hearing. We hear about the Sea of Galilee or the Garden of Gethsemane but we can't wrap our heads around what it would have been like to be there. The Glo Bible fixes that for you. The Glo Atlas allows you to click on a time period of the Bible and to explore the places mentioned and you can even see some of these locations as they are today. Go into the Dome of the Rock and explore it or see the streets Jesus walked on in the Atlas. In the Timeline you are able to search the Bible following a timeline and get pictures, maps, articles, Bible passages based on the timeline. The Topical section walks you through several webs to get to topics that interest you. In the Media section you can explore pictures, artwork, virtual tours, and maps. Naturally, Glo also comes with a eBible. The cost is $49.99 right now and can be used on 5 devices.
Enter the Bible
Luther Seminary has put together a website designed to help those interested navigate their way through the Bible. It is called Enter the Bible and is yet another free resource available. You will have to create a username, but after that you are free to explore what is in the pages of the Bible.
